Chatanika Challenge trail finalized

There has been some question about the trail for the Chatanika Challenge. It was decided at last night’s meeting (27 February) that we’ll be using the trail as it was last year and the year before. Briefly, 100 miles to the first checkpoint at Pleasant Valley Store, with a dog drop at 50 miles; 50 miles out to Angel Creek Lodge and 50 miles back to PVS.More detailed: 50 miles to the dog drop at the trailhead near the school; cross the road at 18 mile CHSR, tour Two rivers, the Chena and flood control area; checkpoint at Pleasant Valley Store (97 miles, finish for the 100 mile race); checkpoint at Angel Creek Lodge (about 150 miles); follow the back trail back to the finish at PVS. 10 hour pool of mandatory rest to use in one hour increments. Other race rules on this website.
Draw and mushers meeting at Two Rivers Lodge Thursday, starting at 7 - they’ll have a buffet of some sort for $12. Breakfast at Chatanika Lodge, $10. Race start at noon, Friday. Finish/awards banquet Sunday at Two Rivers Lodge. Buffet dinner. Extra tickets available at the draw, $25.
